Cortisol signalling depends on tissue and context

Why a local hormone increase can accompany an improvement.

This article discusses published research and an unvalidated EPK hypothesis. It reports no new experimental results.

What the research found

A mouse experiment reported increased lung 11β-HSD1 expression alongside reduced obesity-associated pulmonary inflammation after exercise training. This review uses the indexed publication summary.

What it does not establish

It does not establish lasting systemic cortisol excess or that exercise is harmful. Local glucocorticoid activity and clinical outcomes cannot be inferred from a single circulating measurement.

A research question for EPK

EPK should test the direction of functional outcomes rather than assuming every stress-related signal is damaging. Recovery, symptoms and performance belong alongside biomarkers in an intervention evaluation.
